About Asako Ito
Asako Ito is unusual among Pokemon TCG illustrators: instead of drawing or rendering, she crochets amigurumi dolls of each Pokemon and builds the card backgrounds from felt and other materials, then photographs the results. Her first card was Poliwag in the Sun & Moon set, and her tactile creatures have since appeared regularly, including Litwick, Goomy, Phanpy, and Altaria. Born in Miyagi Prefecture, she majored in oil painting before teaching herself knitting, reportedly inspired by wanting to recreate the teddy bear from the Mr. Bean series.
