About Kariya
Kariya is the pen name of Hitomi Kariya, a Japanese animator and animation director who began illustrating Pokémon cards with Herdier in the 2023 Obsidian Flames expansion, followed by cards such as Probopass in Twilight Masquerade. In 2024 she served as a key animator on the Pokémon Day video POKÉDANCE, designing the character dancing with the Alola first partners. Away from Pokémon she is best known in anime: at 22 she directed and designed the opening for NHK's morning drama Natsuzora, and won a New Animator Award in 2017.
